Beyond repair?

Beyond repair?

Very first of all, wow! The place has summer long gone? How can it maybe be September now???

This is only heading to be a limited website, but I just desired to share a very little mend job that I’ve been doing work on right now. The consumer initially despatched me an e mail a handful of weeks in the past, as she’d been advised by a higher street jeweller that her sentimental gold dress ring, wasn’t in a position to be resized. Que that small evil bit in my brain that just would like to show them improper and exhibit that it IS doable, and voila! A single resized garnet and pearl costume ring. Indeed, it IS a sensitive ring, so she’s not likely to be equipped to put on it every single working day, but at the very least it now CAN be worn, rather than getting destined to sit in a box eternally!

The ring in question - so beautiful!

The ring in question – so gorgeous!

It is 9ct gold, established with garnets and pearls and is extremely sensitive, but undoubtedly not further than repair. It’s a “dress ring” and will never have been meant to be worn all of the time.

Size L1/2 and needs to be a size N

The ring shank has some delicate engraving all around it, and because it’s a pretty small ring, the hallmark took up most of the available room, so I had to opt for where by to make the lower really meticulously.

Adding the new gold

Introducing the new gold

It is all many thanks to my Dado laser welder here. It meant that I could insert in a new section of gold and “weld” it in put without jeopardizing heating (and ruining!) the pearls.

Cleaning up

Cleaning up

After the new piece of gold was welded, it was just a case of very carefully cleaning up the joins.

Not forgetting the inside.

Not forgetting the within.

The more recent gold alloy was a a little various color, but it’ll all blend in with a polish.

Ready to wear!

All set to use!

Of course, you can see the be part of if you seem closely, but occasionally it is not all about entirely hiding the new part. This ring was about preservation and making it wearable again.

Polished and ready for many more years!

Polished and ready for quite a few far more a long time!

A “very” watchful polish so as not to damage those fragile pearls, or to get rid of to considerably of the character. In my view, it’s appropriate for an antique to glimpse as these types of!
